Hey guys! This is my idea so far, pretty much the same as last year. I'm planning to create a chill area for Goa Gil that is very friendly, social, and comfortable. The intention is not a sacred meditation area (although I love those spaces too, I will leave their creation in better hands), but a place to chill and relax, a safe environment to calm down if you're freaking out (hey, Gil can be pretty scary!)
Location: probably next to the kitchen, so people can eat in a comfy place. Also, so it can have some lights hooked up to the same generator at the kitchen.
Elements: Some type of overhead covering, perhaps a dome structure that isn't too closed off. I'm still looking for such a structure, so if you have any suggestions, please message me! Other elements include: fluffy pillows, blankets, a couple stuffed animals and toys for kids (at heart), perhaps a side table to put your tea or water on so it doesn't get knocked over. Rope lights and Christmas lights... If you have any to lend, I'd be very grateful, but make sure you put a label on it so people know it's yours.
I appreciate any and all suggestions, comments, and critism... thank you!

collaboration with Sir Trancelot
Thu, August 17, 2006 - 8:24 PMYou know I will be helping you do the chill area this year, wingnut. : ) Hopefully you'll be utilizing the dome design again. I can't think of a better structure.
I suggest setting it up far away from the main stage, since people that want to chill are probably not going to want to hear Gil's rampaging beats at the same time. So, the area should be behind Gil, or at the very least, to the side and far away (at least 100 meters if the venue allows). I guess if you want it next to the kitchen, then hopefully that is farther away from Gil's stage than last year's. -

Re: Forum for Goa Gil social chill area
Fri, August 18, 2006 - 7:48 PMI dont know if it would be of help, but I have some pretty massive bamboo that could be used teepee style with some cloth, you could make a pretty big enclosed structure with it. Comfortable seating/flooring would be great as well.
Thought I would drop my 2 cents in. -

Tue, September 5, 2006 - 4:41 PMAs the event nears we'll need to watch the forecast. It's getting to be that time of year. I've a shade structure that is water proof. -

Wed, September 6, 2006 - 2:21 PMNice! Would you need help transporting?
We could definitely find a few uses for something
like this...! boom -

Re: bamboo structure
Wed, September 6, 2006 - 3:57 PMCurrently everything is still bundled up from our return from Burning Man. I suspect it will remain that way until Gil and thus should be an easy matter to load again and to transport via our car.

Re: Forum for Goa Gil social chill area
Wed, September 20, 2006 - 6:57 PMi have abox of rope light, maybe a little more than 1' tall x 14" wide x 2' long i.e. quite a bit of rope light. i will probly only be there from sat afternoon to midday sunday, but will pitch it in if it's wanted. a variety of colors.
driving form eugene if anyone needs a ride - though i know there's a place to post for that, just thought i'd throw it in.
my input on location: a bit of space b/t the beats and the chill area if possible.
